The network of paths in the Royan area is carefully marked out to allow independent horse riding: the orange marking, specific to horse riding, indicates the routes to be followed by markers (horizontal line), directional indications (left/right) and prohibitions (cross marking). A green sign showing a foot in a stirrup marks the start of the marked routes. Horse-drawn carriage paths and beaches are not permitted. With nearly 85 km of marked trails around the route des Cardinaux, 30 km in the forest of La Coubre, more than 10 km on the beach and 20 km of equestrian circuit in the forest of Combots, the country of Royan reserves to the amateurs of horsemanship the most beautiful rides.
