The village of Aix, fortified by Vauban, is close to our campsite in Saint Palais sur mer, in the heart of the Pertuis d'Antioche, between the Ile d'Oléron and Fouras.

The island of Aix is a crescent of land, 3km by 700 metres, bordered by beaches, creeks and rocks covered with oysters, where pines and cypresses grow: a land of tranquillity for cycling, walking or horse-drawn carriage rides, on the landscaped paths, often flowered with hollyhocks.

After a 20 minute boat ride from Fouras, you can discover the Ile d'Aix and live at the rhythm of the sea and nature.

Fort Liédot an imposing military construction dating from the 19thth century, Fort Liédot is now a cultural center hosting exhibitions and artistic events.
The Fort de la rade Designed by Vauban, who wanted to turn the Île d'Aix into a fortress to protect Rochefort, the Fort de la rade was built in the 17th century, then rebuilt in the early 19thth century. From the heights of the fort, you can watch Fort Boyard unfold before your eyes.
The House of Napoleon This historic site, where Napoleon Bonaparte spent his last days in France before his exile to St. Helena, is now a museum dedicated to his life and times.
The village of Ile d'Aix The village of Ile d'Aix is renowned for its charm and history. Surrounded by ramparts, it boasts a church, the remains of a Benedictine priory and two museums (the Musée Napoléon and the Musée Africain).
The church Saint-Martin d'Aix This ancient building (11th century), once comprised a priory and a church founded on a crypt. Today, part of the priory, the transept and the crypt remain.
